Blue Light at Night…

Blue light reducing goggles and an eye mask are two ways help you sleep.

Reminds me of the saying, “Red sky at night, sailors delight; red sky in morn, sailors be warned.”  Maybe the new phrasing should be, “Blue light at night, your pants will get tight.”

So what’s this about blue light, you ask?  Blue light is a light emitted from computers, iPads, cellphones, energy-efficient light bulbs (LED and fluorescent), electronic devices, etc.  Some studies have shown that blue light could be damaging to your eyes over the long-term and lead to macular degeneration.  Other studies found that blue light prevents many of us from getting a good night’s sleep.  Still other studies link blue light to weight gain and other health risks.

My early adopter husband brought home two pieces of eyewear that he wants us to try.  First, he wants us to wear yellow lens glasses for computer work at night.  Strangely, my iPad screen looks chartreuse with the glasses on.

Then we are to sleep with eye masks over our eyes.  The ones he purchased are huge.  They make us look like giant flies.  I don’t know if we are to get a good night’s sleep or a good laugh from seeing each other in the eye get-ups!

I am going to give it a try.  I will admit that I have been wearing the yellow lens glasses while writing this post. They actually feel good on my eyes.  I don’t think I realized it until now, but the eye pad screen had hurt to look at.

We will see how it goes!  If I sleep better and lose weight, I will definitely share!

Have you heard about blue lights?  If not, you may want to do a bit of research to determine if you think you need to protect yourself.

Are you concerned about the adverse affects?  I guess my mom was correct about not sitting so close to the TV screen!
