The Next Chapter

I am beginning the fourth chapter of my life. The first three were youth, university career, and title business. Who knows what will be next! This is the book I have been reading for fun; strangely, I am about to read the fourth chapter.

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine asked why I wasn’t blogging.  I was glad he noticed, but I really didn’t have a good answer.   In July, my sister and I sold our business so although I still have plenty to keep me busy, I have less responsibility than I have had in decades.

Originally I had planned to work on some projects that have been looming and then get another job. I gave myself six months to a year to accomplish all my to dos and to reenergize for the next chapter.  Although I stay busy, I don’t seem to accomplish much. My retired friend says it is because, when we are not as busy as we were, we tend to put things off.  As she says, “There is always tomorrow!”

I am going to have to knuckle down and accomplish my projects because I don’t want to waste all the extra time I have right now.  I have become addicted to HGTV programming, but at some point I need to get off the couch and flip a house or reno a rent house or learn to be a potter!

I have sought the advice of retirees.  I assumed they would all say that you have to get up early, and get dressed everyday.  They did not.  I assumed there would be other tips such as have a list of goals for the day or always have a lunch date.  Nothing like this was offered.

Really, I guess I just need to do what needs to be done each day.  Some days that might be painting a fence row, but other days it might necessitate that I catch up on the latest decorating trends.  My friend’s mom, who is a nurse, always said our bodies craved what we needed to eat.  I guess that goes for our minds as well!
