Sunday, thinking we needed a change of scenery, Mike and I headed to Hochatown, Oklahoma to see the progress of the new cabin, the Get Outta Dodge Lodge.

The GODL will be a luxury vacation rental 5/5 log cabin with a hot tub and fireplace on the back porch overlooking pine and cedar trees. It is right next door to My Ok-La-Home, which is my 5/3 luxury vacation rental managed by brokenbowcabinlodging.com.

We love to go to the Beaver Bend State Park area to enjoy all that nature offers:  Boating, fishing, paddle boats, swimming, fly fishing, canoeing, trail rides, river rafting, and hiking.

There are also lots of other fun things to do as well:  Great casual restaurants, wineries, miniature golf, go carts, breweries, spas, a mini train, museums, shopping, a zip line, a distillery, cabins of all shapes and sizes…and levels of comfort.

Two of my favorite places to eat are within walking distance of the cabins. The Blue Rooster and Grateful Head Pizza are both good places to eat. I must give a particular shout out to Grateful Head Pizza. It is one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten.  Small menu, but big flavor.

Beaver’s Bend State Park is not far from the cabins either.  Boasting a clear water lake, great fishing and recreation, the area is gorgeous. Well worth a trip.  From Dallas, it is about a 3 to 3 1/2 hour drive. From Tulsa, it is about 3 hours. And, about 3 hours from Little Rock, Arkansas.

Cabins are usually stocked with anything you may need in the kitchen as well as all necessary linens.  Check with the management company to be sure before you go.  There is a small Walmart and a really nice grocery store, Pruett’s Food, in Broken Bow, so you can purchase anything you may have forgotten.

My cabins have fireplaces, pool tables, hot tubs, TVs in every room, fire pits, and a swing set.  Movies, books, puzzles and games (both indoor and outdoor) are available for the renters to use during their stay.

If you have not ventured that way, the summer is a great time to go.  Lake life is casual, so no need to take dressy clothes.  Be ready to relax, enjoy your friends and family, and appreciate the natural beauty of the area.  Cell service is spotty, so don’t plan to do any work.
