Fresh Fruits and Veggies

Have you heard of Bountiful Basket?  I was not aware of this organization until about a year ago when a friend from a neighboring town told me about it.  I was intrigued!

Bountiful Basket is a local cooperative that offers a basket of fresh, homegrown produce available for purchase each week.   You sign up for the week if you want to participate, pay for your veggies, and then pick them up at the appointed time and place.

In your basket, you receive a mixture of fresh fruits and vegetables.  The contents change weekly and offers what is in season.  The mixture might include staples or something new to you.

In my town, a restaurant offers a weekly basket of farmers’ market fruits and vegetables, not affiliated with Bountiful Basket.  For $40 a person gets a whole basket or for $20 a half.  My first half basket contained lots of goodies.  Apples, lemons and a melon were the fruits.  The veggies were celery, potatoes, tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini squash, onion, mushrooms, broccoli, lettuce, and bell peppers.  It felt like Christmas!

Bountiful Basket is set up as a cooperative, using local farmers as suppliers.  They also provide recipe ideas on their blog.

This is a wonderful chance to support local farmers, eat local, and expand your cooking repertoire.

To see if Bountiful Basket is in your area or to learn more about them, check out their website here.  If not, ask around, there may be a local option available to you.

  1. Now I am wondering which restaurant does this! We eat lots of different vegetables daily, and I am always up for trying new recipes.

Anyone told you lately how much you look like Frankie? Good man. We still miss him.

Thank you for the comment about my dad. Miss him! I don’t hear as much as I used to that I look like my dad.
