Homesick for Archie

Mike and I recently had to leave our fur baby, Archie, at a pet spa for 6 nights while we went on vacation.  I am not sure Archie felt like he was at a spa, but let’s hope so.  We have never left him for that long.

Two things we knew when we left him:  he was going to be worn out when we picked him up, and he was going to have fun playing with the other dogs.  I wish we could watch him on a video camera when we leave him, but the boarding places in Sulphur Springs don’t offer that option.

We wonder if he felt abandoned like when his last family had to give him up.   Does he just live in the moment and play with the dogs, get no sleep since they bark all the time, and wait for his bath on the final day there?  Does he realize the bath signifies the end of his stay is nearing?

I wish we could get into those little brains and know what dogs are thinking.  I assume I know, but I am sure I have no clue.

I do know that Mike and I missed Archie.  We call him a pog  because sometimes he likes to bury his nose into his bed, our shirt, the comforter, etc. and snort like a pig.  Pig.  Dog.  Pog.

We went to bed early our second night away.  We were tired from an early morning so we went to bed at 8:30 pm.  This would have made Archie happy because he is ready for the entire household to go to bed at 8 pm every night.  He huffs, he puffs, he stares, and he finally gives up and tries to fall asleep with his head on one of our laps.

How attached we get to our little pets.  They are friend, room mate, and confidante.  They are part of our daily routine.  And like we miss our family, our homes, and that routine, we also miss our fur babies when we are away.

  1. You will get lots of comments about pets. I can tell you that my cat is all that has kept me going a lot of the time since my husband died in 2012. So they serve as comfort in grief. When I return from a trip he gives me such love .

    1. Archie has been a blessing to us, just as your cat has been to you. They seem to give so much happiness to us, yet they don’t want much in return. It is good to hear from you!
