Corralling Rolled Things

A great find for storing wrapping paper.

I could not think of a better title for this post. Literally, it is about corralling rolled things such as rolls of wrapping paper, rolls of fabric…you know, rolled things that tend to unfurl.

I had noticed an item that is used to bundle cords and wires. It was a thin piece of webbed strapping with the rigid side of Velcro on one end and a short length of the soft side of Velcro on the backside of the other end. Immediately I thought I could make it larger and use to organize my wrapping paper. After Christmas, I had noticed just how out-of-hand it had become.

This is so very useful around the house. It is a new must have in my home.

When I went to purchase the necessary supplies to make my straps, I noticed that Velcro already comes in rolls which have a strap with rigid and soft on either side (as opposed to the two separate straps that Velcro together).

I found this in the craft section of Walmart, but it is also available from various retailers online.

Long story short, I purchased the roll of Velcro One-Wrap Thin Roll for $3.97 at Walmart, and all I had to do was cut the length I need.

To get this.

Once home, I realized I needed to also contain several rolls of fabric that are leaning in the corner of my craft room. My fabric is all curtain fabric that won’t snag, but I did go ahead and put the soft side against the fabric just to be sure I didn’t ruin it.

An unruly roll of fabric.
Can be easily contained.

When cutting, I went ahead an made sure the strap would wrap around 1-1/2 to 2 times. That gives the two sides more to cling to in order to keep it together. It will also make it easier to reuse for other projects because it will be a longer piece.

There is so much for which this Velcro can be used! Obviously it will gather those pesky cords and wires, but it may also be used for all sorts of things like bundling stacks of linens (if you like to keep sheets and pillowcases together), carry logs or fire wood, etc. It can also be used (and reused) as a zip tie for many purposes.

I hope this helps you organize your home! It has really helped me.
