Collecting: Ornaments From Travels

As I have mentioned in another post, I collect Santas and love to get a new Santa ornament when I travel.

Mike also loves to collect ornaments when he travels.  He doesn’t have a theme. Sometimes he buys ornaments just because they are pretty and will serve as a reminder of the trip.  Other times it is an ornament that represents the area.

Mike’s Christmas tree is always beautiful.  He decorates his tree in gold and burgundy.  So his travel ornaments usually fit with those colors.

Last year, as we decorated his new, really tall, pencil tree, he told the story of each ornament; when and where he purchased the ornament or who gave it to him.  It was nice to reminisce, talk about fun trips and far away family members.

My travel ornaments are a bit more obvious (thank goodness since I have no memory!), such a Santa climbing the Eiffel Tower which is a souvenir from Paris.  Those not as obvious, have the location written on them somewhere, like a pipe smoking wooden Santa that has Quebec written on the back.

This might be a fun family collection to start on your travels.    Or do you already collect ornaments?  If so, what kind do you look for?  I would love to see photos of your collections.
