They are back!  But, who knows…maybe they never left.  I remember terrariums as a young girl.  I think Aunt E and/or Aunt Clarine had one.  I just remember them as being very intriguing.

Well, on a visit to Natchitoches, we found an amazing terrarium vendor at the Kaffie-Frederick, Inc. General Mercantile.   Cockfield’s Garden had dozens of containers, numerous plants, books, and tiny decorations like mushrooms, gardeners, birds, driftwood, etc.

Connie, pictured above, is so helpful.  She designs a terrarium to meet your needs and educates you on how to care for your new plants.  In my case, I wanted to include some red plants since that is one of my favorite colors.  My beloved Aunt E had an asparagus fern (which I still have in my house), so the mini version reminded me of her and had to be part of the arrangement.

Cockfield’s Garden has so many options available pre-made and then all the supplies necessary to make one to your exact specifications.  You can tell that she has a real passion for gardening!

Mike and I purchased two.  One to put in the kitchen window, which is composed of airplants.  The second, larger, round terrarium is composed of moss, two birds, a birdhouse, driftwood, and miniature plants like geraniums, asparagus fern, and several that I should know the names of, but don’t!  These plants will need watering from the roots.  Connie recommended using a turkey baster.

I love both terrariums and hope that I can refrain from killing them.  I am sure, with Mike’s – a/k/a the plant whisperer – help, they will fare just fine.

Anyone for a road trip to a terrarium workshop with Connie in Natchitoches?  I know it would be fun.
