Please Join Me at the Freedom Ball

A few civic-minded individuals in our community have been planning a great evening to honor veterans, to raise funds to add veterans’ names to the memorial, and to maintain and repair the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial located on the Square in Sulphur Springs.

The Ball will take place on Saturday, April 7 at 6 p.m. at Canyon Canyon Event Center.  Tickets are $100 each and are available from committee members.

The evening will include dinner, dancing, a band, a program and lots of fun.  I believe I was told seating is limited to 400 individuals, so get your tickets now.  Dress is black tie or military uniform.

There are always lots of events competing for our time and money.  This is a really good cause and something you can feel good about donating and participating.  Even if you can’t attend, a donation (all or part of which may be tax-deductible since the memorial holds an IRS 501 (c) 3 designation) would be appreciated.

The memorial has annual maintenance, such as replacing the flags when they get worn.  There are also monitors that need replacing which allow a visitor to locate a veteran’s name on the wall as well as read about their military service.  The water wall has mechanical parts that must be replaced from time to time.  Unfortunately, there are repairs that must be made when vandalism occurs.   Over time, these expenses add up and are things that can not be deferred.  In order to keep this meaningful part of our downtown square looking pristine, private funds must be raised.

We can appreciate the beauty of the memorial, but the stories of service to our country behind each name listed are the real purpose.  So many of us have loved ones honored on the walls.  My grandfather, dad, two uncles and husband are all included.  It is only right that every eligible veteran be listed.  This event and/or your donation will make that happen.  So please, join me in a fun night that will help our community!
