Hi there! I am Kayla, a native Texan, who loves to craft, cook, sew, learn and have fun. Along the way I own my own business, volunteer and get into lots of mischief.
Back in the day, I worked hard to earn a doctorate in curriculum and instruction of higher education, an MBA, a masters in Mass Communication, and an undergraduate degree in business with a minor in journalism.
But really, none of that matters. My diplomas had been stacked on the floor for years until a friend reworked a cabinet in my home office and displayed a couple of sheepskins.
It is pretty obvious that I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, but not just in the world of academia. I love history, culture, travel, cooking, sewing and life in general.
I am a goal setter and achiever, whether it is being a self-taught seamstress, experimenting in the kitchen, getting elected to City Council and then becoming mayor of Sulphur Springs, or learning a new profession and successfully launching a family business. Apparently some of these interests and characteristics have carried over into my volunteer activities as I was honored to be named, along with my sister, Citizen of the Year.
What I enjoy is learning, having fun and life itself! Besides working and volunteering, I enjoy spending time with my hubby Mike and my dog Archie. For creative outlets I cook, sew, craft and create.
Like most busy women, I don’t have a lot of time. Most of my recipes are quick because I want to put a healthy, homemade dinner on the table for my family as many nights as possible. I rely heavily on my crock pot, pressure cooker, and simple recipes. My sewing projects are small and my craft projects are easy. But without a bit of creativity in my life, I think I would become the pressure cooker!
