Vintage Postcards

A year or so back, I started purchasing vintage postcards on eBay.  Specifically, I buy all the Sulphur Springs postcards that I can find (please don’t bid against me!).

Wherever and whatever your hometown, you can probably find some great old postcards on eBay.  There is the cutest one of the swimming pig from San Marcus, TX that I keep seeing.  I also run into several from White Sulphur Springs and Sutherland Springs.

My husband collects postcards from his hometown as well.  You sure can learn a lot about the history of your town by looking at them.

To me, it would be the Holy Grail to find a postcard to or from a relative.  The notes are almost as entertaining as the photos!

I have a project in mind for these cards, so I do hope to share them all at some point.  In the meantime, I want to share a few of the real treasures I have found.

Sulphur Springs, Tx is this beautiful, but we don't have a snow-covered mountain on the horizon!

By the way, did you know that you may find some old postcards that have your town’s name written on them, but really is just a stock image?  I have a couple of these, they look very utopian in nature.

What can you expect to pay for a postcard?  I have paid as little as a couple of dollars, all the way up to $115 for a rare photo of the original city hall and fire station.

Even if your aren’t interested in owning these little treasures, they are fun to view.  There are some other good websites that offer postcards for sale as well.  If you decide to buy, be sure to read the description.  You want to purchase an original old postcard, not a copy or reproduction.

This is a really bad photo, but at least you get the idea of how cute three vintage Oklahoma postcards look when framed.

I also love seasonal vintage postcards and travel postcards for decorations.  Frame three Christmas postcards for a cute wall hanging. Or frame a postcard from a favorite travel destination.  Maybe a cool vintage postcard that relates to a hobby would like nice framed.  There are so many fun decorating ideas for vintage postcards!  And, other than my rare find, they are relatively cheap to collect.

Happy hunting (yes there are vintage postcards for that!).
