Cookie cutters are great for making cute cookies (obviously), but they are also wonderful for using as patterns for crafting and sewing projects.
For example, I made a series of quilted table runners for many annual holidays (New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, etc.). For the quilting, I decided to use cookie cutters as the patterns, which turned out well. Cookie cutters are thematic, easy to tell what the are, and have clean lines.
I have also used cookie cutters as patterns for making felt bean bags for holiday tic, tac, toe, as well as making small, felt pillows for gifts (kind of beanie baby meets homemade cool).
With the aid of a copy machine, you can increase or decrease an image to get the perfect size for your application.
So the next time your imagination is cooking up something that requires a clean shape, don’t forget to look through your cookie cutter stash. Make those cutters work double time.
Bonus: Basic coloring book designs also make great patterns for quilting and sewing.
