Goodwill and CANHelp Thrift Stores

My local Goodwill store is a really large store that carries everything one could want.  I forget to look there although it isn’t far from my house.

A couple of weeks ago I had been working on a tablescape that incorporated a couple of crystal rose bowls.  The larger one was on a tall brass stand, but the smaller one had no such stand.  I wanted a brass stand that would elevate the smaller bowl about 3-5 inches.

The before: The bowl on the right needed to sit a bit higher.

My go-to place to search for random items is eBay.  It had brass stands for sale.  I had been debating which stand I wanted to purchase for a couple of days.  In the meantime, I decided to run by Goodwill one day at lunch to look for something else.

Imagine my delight when I saw the exact size stand I needed.  It had the correct sized opening to fit my bowl, and it was only $2!  No shipping or waiting was involved.

A great price tag!

At the same time I found a silk designer formal skirt for $3.  I may or may not choose to wear it, but I know I can use the fabric for craft projects.

My community not only has a great Goodwill store, but it also offers a thrift store at CANHelp, which is an organization that helps local community members through education, resources, and other worthwhile programs.  Every time a person makes a purchase at Goodwill or CANHelp, not only is she getting what she wants at a bargain price, but she is also helping other people as well!  What a great deal!

The after. Of course now I want a third rose bowl to round out the display. I will have to make frequent trips to my local thrift store to find one!

I was so delighted with my Goodwill finds that I had to remind folks to check out their local thrift stores for all sorts of great bargains and craft resources.

For more information on CANHelp and their upcoming tennis fundraiser, visit their website at:  http://canhelponline.org   They also have a drawing for a trip to Waco and the Magnolia Market.  So buy a few tickets; you may win!

Happy hunting (and helping)!
